Engagement rings are usually made of precious metals such as gold, platinum, or sometimes silver. Gold can be yellow, white, or rose, while platinum is known for its durability and shine.
The centerpiece of most engagement rings is the gemstone, commonly a diamond.
Diamonds are evaluated according to the so-called 4Cs: cut, color, clarity and carat. Cut determines brilliance, color ranges from colorless to yellow hues, clarity measures the presence of inclusions and carats determine the size and weight of the stone.
To keep engagement rings in good condition, it is advisable to clean them with warm water and soap, using a soft-bristled brush.
It is also advisable to take the ring to a jeweler for periodic check-ups to ensure that the stones are secure and the metal is in good condition. When not in use, the ring can be stored in a fabric-lined jewelry box.
