How to take care of your jewelry?

Jewellery is a delicate piece that needs special care. As far as possible, we always recommend removing jewellery before showering or diving into swimming pools or the sea. Also avoid direct contact with cosmetic products such as body creams and perfumes, and especially with chemical products. It is also necessary to be careful with knocks and sudden movements, especially for chains, rings, wedding rings or fine bracelets. Especially for 18-carat gold pieces, which are the most delicate. It is recommended to store jewellery in boxes, drawers, cloth bags or jewellery boxes, and avoid leaving them exposed because oxygen is the element that oxidises pieces the most. To store them, it is best to do so separately and with chains and bracelets extended to avoid tangles that can end in breakage. Even with optimal care of your jewellery, you may notice that over time they have blackened or changed colour. This does not mean that they are damaged, but that they need cleaning. Here we show you the best way to clean and maintain your jewelry.

For a basic cleaning of your gold pieces, you can first use a specific microfibre cloth for use with jewellery, which at Roselin we have available for sale in our stores and online . If this has not managed to restore the colour and shine of your jewellery, you can perform a deeper cleaning with everyday cleaning products. Fill a container with approximately 500ml of warm water and add a small amount of ammonia (or neutral soap). Submerge the piece and leave it in for a few seconds. When you remove it, you can rub it with a soft-bristled brush to focus on the dirtiest areas. Remember to do this with special care if it has zirconia or pearls. When you finish, submerge the jewellery in clean water again and dry it slowly. This way you will achieve a complete cleaning. Never use this procedure if you want to clean jewellery with precious stones such as emeralds, rubies, sapphires and others to avoid damaging them. Also remember that white gold jewellery can lose its rhodium plating with use and reveal the usual yellow colour of gold. You can restore its shine with a rhodium plating, which we offer at a cost of €18.

Even if you have taken proper care of your jewelry, silver can turn black as a result of continuous contact with oxygen. To clean it, you can use a microfiber cloth (sold in our physical stores and online stores ), or use a cleaning with soap and water or ammonia (read specific care for sterling silver). If these methods do not restore the piece to its original state, you need a deep cleaning that can only be provided by a specific cleaner. You can purchase it at any of our physical stores.

To avoid scratching the crystal and the watch case, store your watches separately. Be careful not to knock them over and always clean them with a microfibre cloth (or a clean, dry cloth). Avoid contact with harsh chemicals or products. To keep the mechanism working properly, do not expose your watch to high temperatures and keep in mind its water resistance. With 3 ATM it can withstand splashes, with 5 ATM it is suitable for brief contact with water (washing your hands or showering), with 10 ATM it is optimal for swimming and submersion, and from 20 ATM onwards it is for diving. Remember that, even with proper use and care of your watch, the battery life is usually one year and from time to time you will need to have the mechanism of your watch checked.
